Trip to Edinburgh

I just fell in love to Edinburgh right away after I saw this city for the first time. Edinburgh is absolutely beautiful. The scenery, the buildings, the contour, the vibrant, the history, the romance. No wonder many authors were inspired and brought out their masterpiece from this city: JK Rowling, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Walter Scott, etc. Edinburgh is a literary city. Even the main station (Waverley) is named after a novel of Sir Walter Scott. If I have a chance, I definitely will come back to visit this city again.

Subhanallah.. And that was definitely one of the best city I ever visited!

The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It is the largest monument to a writer in the world. It stands in Princes Street Gardens

Sightseeing Edinburgh with Hophop bus

New Town, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Leith Cruise Terminal (boat tour), Royal Yacht Britannia, Palace of Holyroodhouse, Scottish Parliament.

Ediburgh Castle

One of the world’s most famous guns, Mons Meg.

National Museum of Scotland

Free entrance to the museum!

Gak lupa berfoto di depan entrance museum

The Elephant House

Nah, we got 2 books, first is about Nessie&Loch Ness (yes of course!), second we got this touching story about little dog name Bobby. Ceritanya sih rada mirip sama Hachiko, anjing dari Jepang.. tapi entah mungkin krn anjing sifatnya emang setia kali yaa, jadi cerita kaya gini bisa terjadi di mana aja.

So, here’s the story: Greyfriars Bobby was a little dog whose loyalty to his master made him a legend. His master was a police named John Gray (Auld Jock). His duty was guard the Greyfriars Kirkyard every night and Bobby has accompanied him for every duties. When his beloved master died, Greyfriars Kirkyard became Bobby’s home. He faithfully guarded his master’s grave for many years until he died. There was a coffe house beside the kirkyard where Auld Jock spent his time off during his duty, Bobby also came aroud there to looked for his master. Then, a statue of Bobby was built to commemorate his story. The statue stands close to the entrance to Greyfriars Kirkyard at the top of Candlemaker’s Row in Edinburgh. It watches over the path where Bobby walked everyday for so many years form the Kirkyard to the Coffe House. Nah no wonder dog icon is so popular in Edinburgh (and Scotland), di souvenir2 pasti banyak yg icon-nya guguk.

Museum of Edinburgh

The Museum of Edinburgh is the City’s treasure box – a maze of historic rooms crammed full of iconic objects from the Capital’s past.

Holyrood Park

Yang bisa dikunjungi di sini antara lain: Arthur’s Seat (the main peak of the group of hills which form most of Holyrood Park), Salisbury Crags, St. Margaret’s Loch.

Edinburgh Landscape
Holyrood Park (also called the Queen’s Park or King’s Park depending on the reigning monarch’s gender) is a royal park in central Edinburgh, Scotland about a mile to the east of Edinburgh Castle. It has an array of hills, lochs, glens, ridges, basalt cliffs, and patches of gorse, providing a remarkably wild piece of highland landscape within its 650-acre (260 ha) area

Fringe Festival

Fringe Festival Edinburgh
When we arrived in Edinburgh, everybody said that we just visited Edinburgh in the right time, because during August they held The Fringe Festival, an anually festival in summer. It’s the largest and oldest arts festival in the world. At first we just don’t know what kind of festival is it, the street just crowded and we can find art performances everywhere: music, instruments, dance, drawings, comedy, acrobatic, trick&magic show. From the free-watching show (with tip, ‘semacam ngamen gitu’), university level show (by Univ of Edinburgh), until the professional show (with paid ticket), like the Royal Edinburgh Military tatto. Artists from all over the world came here to perform their best. Ah they even have an Islamic Exhibition during Fringe Festival, it held by center mosque of Edinburgh. The Vibrance of this city just amused us!
Tartan and Bagpipe
Setelan tartan dan bagpipe. Khas skotland banget! Akhirnya saya nemu rok tartan panjang di toko seconhand for charity, harganya cuma 8 pounds! Jiwa Mamamini dari Groningen kebawa-bawa sampe sini.
